Giving Back

IBSS is passionate about giving back to the community and providing life-changing opportunities for the unemployed, underemployed, career changers, and transitioning veterans. To serve community members who have traditionally encountered barriers to obtaining a quality education and earning a living wage, IBSS developed a Cybersecurity Apprenticeship Program that provides content-based and hands-on learning for aspiring cybersecurity professionals.

One of IBSS’ core values is that we strive to make things better – whether it is picking up trash in a local park, providing food or supplies for those in need, or being good stewards for the environment. Throughout the year, we organize several community events where we can make a difference. Some of these events include: a Thanksgiving food drive, park and beach clean ups, school supply drives, and toy drives.

In addition, IBSS is a Certified B Corporation – a for-profit company dedicated to using business as a force for good.

Cybersecurity Apprenticeship Program

Our Maryland registered Cybersecurity Apprenticeship Program provides a content-based and hands-on learning experience for aspiring cybersecurity professionals to acquire cybersecurity knowledge and gain experience in cybersecurity disciplines such as engineering; governance, risk management and compliance; and security operations. Cybersecurity topics include: email security, cloud security, computer defense, data loss prevention, endpoint detection and response, firewalls and edge protection, identity and access management, managed detection and response, risk assessment, vulnerability management, and zero trust.

Blanket Drives for the Homeless

One of our important initiatives is providing warm blankets to the homeless during the winter months. Did you know that there are more than 4,500 homeless people living in Washington, D.C? Each year, IBSS volunteers pass out warm blankets to the homeless community. We also pass out warm hats, gloves, scarfs, and socks.

Toiletry Donations

We collect and distribute toiletry kits for the homeless each spring in the metropolitan D.C. area and a couple more times for a center in the northeast.

Taking Middle School Students to Annapolis

Each spring, we invite 50-60 middle school students for a boat ride on the Annapolis Bay and then we take them to lunch. When students arrive, they get a backpack filled with snacks for the day along with an IBSS t-shirt. Eveyone has a great time!

Beach and Park Clean Ups

Several beach and park clean ups are scheduled each year. IBSS feels strongly that we should all be good stewards of the environment.

Project GiveBack

Each year around Thanksgiving, IBSS joins the Project GiveBack initiative to sort, pack, and distribute Thanksgiving food baskets to those less fortunate. We have a great time packing up products and also have several hundred boxes delivered to us locally so we can share with communities in need.

School Supply Drives

IBSS staff members donate school supplies to schools in the Silver Spring area, the northeast, and in the southern states. We like giving back and hope our efforts make the first day back to school the best  ever.
