Through all the great lives and careers of the women showcased in this series, we learned that gender does not define what you can do, only you have the power to do that. The achievements and accomplishments of these women serve as an inspiration to many women around the world, eager to start their own journeys and careers. Below, IBSS has curated a list of resources future women in STEM can use to get things started, with a special focus on meteorology, oceanography and computer science. 

  1. The June Bacon-Bercey Scholarship in Atmospheric Science for Women 

June Bacon-Bercey was one of many women covered this month, and an important trailblazer in the field of atmospheric science. Her legacy continues with the scholarship she founded to encourage more women and girls to establish their careers and continue their studies in meteorology.   1. Supportive Network for Women in Meteorology (SWIM)

The Supportive Network for Women in Meteorology (SWIM) is a group at Penn State University comprised of researchers, professors, students and other members of the meteorology community devoted to empowering women in the meteorology field. You can find out more information about SWIM here

  1. MPOWIR

The Mentoring Physical Oceanographer Women to Increase Retention is not only a mouthful, but a community led and based program doing just what the name says- mentoring future female physical oceanographers through the beginning of their careers to increase retention of women in the field.   1. Women in Ocean Science

Women in Ocean Science enpowers women in marine science and conservation to tackle gendered issuest in the field to thrive in their careers. They believe that by elevating female voices and empowering women in marine science, they’re contributing to more efforts to protect the ocean and our marine environment.   1. Women in Technology (WIT)

With over 1000 members in the DC/Maryland/Virginia area, Women in Techonology (WIT) aims to advance women in tech through leadership development, technology education, networking and mentoring for women in different parts of their careers.   1. Black Girls Code

Black Girls Code is a program encouraging more African American women to pursue careers in STEM, encouraging them to see their true potential.
