This tagging project is part of a larger effort with the major research objectives of elucidating shark affiliation, continuous residence times, and vertical migration behavior around anchored FADs as a means of identifying potential spatial bycatch mitigation strategies for commercial fisheries using FADs and to obtain a better understanding of the habitat use, ecology, and areas of biological significance of sharks around Hawaii.
IBSS will support NOAA’s Fisheries Service in helping minimize negative impacts to NOAA-trust resources and promote sustainable growth of aquaculture, reduce user conflicts, and maximize public input in the AOA identification process.
The AFSC studies Alaska’s marine life and ecosystems and works toward a sustainable use of living marine resources.
IBSS will deliver services that include planning and executing the development of media and graphics materials that inform appropriate target audiences of AFSC’s research, accomplishments, and activities.

The PSC supports implementation of the Pacific Salmon Treaty and provides logistical support for the U.S. Section of the Pacific Salmon Commission, and through work with Regional Fishery Management Organizations in developing federal policies and regulations for fishing in waters off the West Coast.
This task will provide services that ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of systems crucial to testing new technology integration into NWS operations.
Through this BPA, IBSS will continue to provide IT services that support applications and tools that are critical to the AFSC science mission
