The IBSS HERO program serves as a cornerstone of our workforce development by providing a rigorous, content-based, and hands-on learning experience for aspiring cybersecurity professionals, regardless of their professional background.
From Education to Operational Impact
The HERO program moves beyond theory by immersing apprentices in the same advanced enterprise tools and technologies used by our customers. This practical exposure allows participants to contribute to mission-critical security disciplines such as Engineering, Governance, Risk Management and Compliance, and Security Operations.
The speed at which apprentices transition into these roles often exceeds expectations. Current apprentice Ahmad Neama shares his experience:
“I think what would surprise most people is how quickly apprentices become operational. We’re not just shadowing; we’re contributing to actual security workflows.” — Ahmad Neama, Cybersecurity Apprentice
A Comprehensive Professional Foundation
Upon completion of the program, apprentices are equipped to perform tasks as entry-level assessors, Information System Security Officers, Security Engineers, and SOC Analysts. To ensure long-term career success, IBSS provides a robust suite of technical and professional resources:
- Core Certifications: All apprentices earn CompTIA Network+, Security+, CySA+, Linux+, and PenTest+.
- Specialization Options: Participants can choose to pursue additional certifications from AWS, Google, Microsoft, Splunk, CGRC, and CISSP.
- Professional Development: Training includes Toastmasters public speaking, professional writing, and soft skills development.
For many, this structure provides the essential bridge between academic knowledge and a career. Cybersecurity Apprentice Raheem Weldon reflects on this transition:
“I was a fresh college graduate with limited real-world experience. This opportunity provided me the area I needed to not only gain career-building experience but also show what I was made of.” — Raheem Weldon, Cybersecurity Apprentice
Building Talent Through Mentorship
IBSS focuses on internal growth and community investment to address the evolving challenges of the digital landscape. Our President, Bruce Arvand, highlights the strategic value of this approach:
“Rather than buying or recruiting your talent, you are building the talent. You bring them on and provide them with mentors so they get a sense of what they want and what they can do.” — Bruce Arvand, President
Formal apprenticeships usually last 4 years, but the length of time is dependent on the apprentice’s occupation. Approximately 94% of apprentices who complete a Registered Apprenticeship remain employed, with an average annual salary of $84,000.
Commitment to Our Community
IBSS established HERO to serve community members who seek a quality education and a living wage. By providing these training opportunities, we help individuals chart a path to prosperity while strengthening the cybersecurity workforce.
